Something I heard recently:
Surround yourself with talented, intelligent people who don’t agree with you.
I have a lot of thoughts brewing about this. Many have articulated themselves much better than I (uh, Frank Chimero?), but the idea is that through things like Svpply, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook … we inundate ourselves with information we want to be inundated with. That is, people sharing similar tastes and outlooks.
While this is, obviously, an attractive situation, it can also be very destructive, that we silo the information we’re exposed to.
It’s so refreshing to discover dissenting opinions, to hear and accept criticism. These things aren’t negative, they’re rejuvenating, inspiring and necessary for personal and professional growth.
